“By giving we can uplift individuals, families and communities and ultimately facilitate change all over the world. I am proud to be a part of Golden Key Pretoria which aim to enable members to spend their lives on something that will outlast them.” Liz-Marié Basson – Golden Key Community Service Award 2008, ![]() With great talent, comes great responsibility. GK offers you the opportunity to reach out to those less fortunate. The South African chapters have a rich tradition of EDUCATION-FOCUSED COMMUNITY SERVICE and are active in their surrounding communities. Golden Key sets ourselves apart with the focus on service in the community and our membership driven by the active chapters provided 200,000 volunteer service hours since 2000 when Golden Key started in South Africa. At our International Conferences the delegates volunteered to part-take in several service projects for example: In 2008 in New Orleans, Louisiana a half day service was spent to improve the neighbourhoods of Hurricane Katrina victims and in 2009 in Orlando, Florida we have learnt during the four outreaches that community service is helping people, but also gaining an understanding about each other and a sense of human compassion. Community Engagement is an important pillar and Golden Key encourages members to give back to those less-fortunate through reading book clubs, HIV/Aids awareness, life-skills orientation, tutoring and mentoring, school painting days, soup kitchens and donations of tinned food, clothes and stationary. Golden Key South Africa has received several international chapter awards for outstanding community engagement initiatives.
